Only One Planet!

LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE is an integrated project that, through awareness-raising, education and training of key stakeholders, will encourage the implementation of measures to help Slovenia meet its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets by 2020 and 2030.

The LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE project covers six areas that, on the face of it, may seem commonplace, but, nevertheless, contribute greatly to the causes or the mitigation of climate change.

For the end of this year, as part of the LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE project, a Climate Café was hosted in the Domžale Library, and its programme was enhanced by an interesting lecture on ways to save energy in households.

The Climate Café recently stopped in Novo mesto, where the topic of energy saving in households was discussed in the atrium of the Miran Jarc Library.

On Saturday, 15 October, the Grando salt warehouse in Portorož hosted the second Climate Café as part of the events marking Piran’s municipal holiday.

The first of the Climate Café events took place on Monday, 19 September, as part of the LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE project. The event was launched during European Mobility Week in cooperation with the European Commission in Slovenia and IPOP – Institute for Spatial Policies.

On Wednesday, 8 June 2022, the international conference entitled "With successful practices to climate neutrality", which was part of the LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE project, took place at the Austria Trend Hotel in Ljubljana.

The 60th edition of the construction fair will take place between 6 and 10 April at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, featuring 250 companies from 23 countries. This year’s focus will be on environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solutions, together creating a comfortable and safe home.

Due to climate change, European forests are facing an enormous challenge. The resilience and stability of forests must be increased today in order to preserve them and reduce the effects of climate change in the future. We will attempt to answer a few questions about how to achieve that at the international summer school "Strengthening the resilience of forests to climate change", organised in Postojna between 18 and 22 July by the Slovenian Forestry Institute as part of the LIFE-IP CARE4CLIMATE project 2022. The programme is aimed at BSc forestry students from Slovenia and EU member states. The emphasis of the programme will be on silvicultural solutions and good practices that have proved successful in Europe in strengthening the resilience of forests to climate change.

Umanotera, in cooperation with Ljubljana Tourism, staged an exhibition on the Krakovo Embankment entitled On the Hot Side of the Alps – Life in the Time of Climate Change. The exhibition portrays the consequences of climate change that will be felt in Slovenia if greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced quickly and decisively. The new, expanded edition of the exhibition, which has been touring Slovenia for a year, also shows the clearly visible climate changes that have already taken place in Slovenia.

The Eco Fund is again offering incentives for pilot projects involving the complete renovation of multi-dwelling buildings, co-financed with new financial instruments – a loan from the reserve fund or energy contracting and a subsidy of up to 50%.

You are kindly invited to attend the 2022 International Summer School of Political Ecology – New Concepts for Just Transitions: Towards living well within planetary boundaries, which will take place between 27 June and 1 July 2022 at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana.

The library includes information sources about climate change mitigation that were created during the project activities.
