As part of the E3 action entitled “Networking with other LIFE and non-LIFE projects”, the LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE team has planned the organisation of several meetings with other LIFE and non-LIFE projects suitable for networking purposes based on their objectives or achieved results.
To this end, the Interreg Central Europe - STREFOWA project was identified for its many achievements. In specific, it aimed to give an overview of relevant facts as well as best practices and initiatives on reducing food waste in Europe. One of its key activities was the organization of food waste hackathons in different cities. Hackathons, which are designed to bring researchers from various career stages and backgrounds together to create shareable solutions to problems of common interest, have proven to be a successful tool for raising awareness and finding new and innovative solutions. The latter is also highly applicable to the increasing food waste problem.
One of the project partners, D` Agency, plans to conduct a hackathon on the topic of food waste prevention and reduction in 2021, as part of the action E 6.2 “Hackathon series on climate change mitigation”, therefore exchanging experiences with STREFOWA is beneficial to the execution of hackathons in Slovenia.
The virtual meeting that took place on 28th August 2020 between Ms Helene Pattermann, the communication manager for STREFOWA and colleagues from the MESP and D` Agency provided useful insights on the logistical aspects of hackathons. The participants also exchanged views on the most efficient food waste prevention activities and initiatives from different European cities.
