About the project

LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE integrated project

LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE (LIFE17 IPC/SI/000007) is an eight-year-long integrated project that, through the awareness-raising, education and training of key stakeholders, will encourage the implementation of measures to help Slovenia effectively meet its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets by 2030 and enable a faster transition to a low-carbon society.

The integrated project is co-financed by the European LIFE programme, the Climate Change Fund and other project partners.

The LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE project is coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy and is a collaboration of 15 partners from the public, non-governmental and private sectors.

Their activities will contribute to a more efficient implementation of measures for reducing GHG emissions that are laid down in strategic documents and which were adopted by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia in order to achieve national legislative objectives regarding GHG emissions reduction.

Project areas and activities

The project was launched in Slovenia in 2019 and touches upon numerous important topics that, on the face of it, may sometimes seem commonplace, but, nevertheless, have a significant impact on the origins and the mitigation of climate change. The content of the project is divided into six areas, from soft measures to measures in sectors that are not included in EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).

Project objectives

The project is based on the connections between sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, sustainable land use and practices for the transition to a low-carbon economy. It strives to help solve one of the most pressing issues of modern societies — the climate crisis.

LIFE programme

The integrated project is co-financed by the LIFE programme, the EU financial instrument for environmental protection, nature conservation and climate action.

The main purpose of the programme is to promote the successful realisation of the already adopted documents, namely under the authority of those who can best contribute to it (governmental institutions, non-governmental organisations, educational establishments, etc.).

Detailed information on the LIFE programme, current calls for proposals and topical subjects are available on the website of the European Commission (LIFE programme) and on the LIFE SLOVENIJA website.

In addition to LIFE IP CARE4CLIMATE, Slovenia is currently implementing another integrated project for nature, the LIFE integrated project for enhanced management of Natura 2000 in Slovenia.
